Structure & Function in Contemporary Glaucoma Care
2015 Optometry's Meeting Course Recording - The clinical relevance of both structural change and the functional deficits associated with the development of glaucoma have been debated for many years. However, both are considered essential for the early diagnosis and subsequent management of the disease. Visual function is most commonly assessed using standard automated perimetry. New techniques for the evaluation of visual function specific perimetry will be outlined. Three-dimensional imaging of the optic nerve and nerve fibre layer is now also a standard of practice in the detection and management of the glaucomas. New high resolution techniques for the evaluation of structural change will be presented. The scientific principals, clinical application and relevance of these techniques will be presented with particular respect to present day optometric practice.
